Gaming has evolved significantly since 2013. Today, cross-platform play is the industry standard for major multiplayer titles. But will Rockstar Games finally break down the walls between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC for Grand Theft Auto VI?
The Console Ecosystem
At launch on November 19, 2026, GTA VI will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Given the architectural similarities between these two consoles, crossplay between PS5 and Xbox is highly probable for the new iteration of GTA Online. This would unify the player base and ensure healthy lobbies for years to come.
The PC Dilemma
Historically, Rockstar delays the PC release of their flagship titles by 12 to 18 months. When the PC version eventually launches, crossplay becomes a complicated issue due to the prevalence of modding and unauthorized cheating engines on PC environments.
It is speculated that Rockstar may implement a toggle system, allowing console players to opt-in or opt-out of PC crossplay lobbies, similar to the system used in Call of Duty.
